An alert resident in the Tanner Trails area and quick responding police officers combined for the apprehension & arrest of three Aurora teenagers on criminal damage to property charges.

On Sunday, July 5th at about 7:43 p.m., a resident of the 2900 block of Sterkel Rd. saw a red Hyundai Santa Fe sport utility vehicle going northbound on Western Dr. when the front seat passenger struck a mailbox with a baseball bat.  The offenders went eastbound Sterkel and sped off.  The resident quickly called 911 and provided dispatchers with a detailed description and direction of travel of the offenders.

Minutes later, a patrol officer responding to the incident observed the offending vehicle traveling eastbound on Tanner Rd. at Bennett Dr.  The officer followed the vehicle and stopped it at Deerpath Rd. & Oak St.

The driver and two passengers of the Hyundai were arrested and transported to the North Aurora Police Department.  The offenders vehicle was towed.  The charges were:

· 16 year old driver of Aurora charged with criminal damage to property, improper display of vehicle registration, and violation of the graduated license restrictions (more than 1 passenger under 20)

· 14 year old of Aurora charged with criminal damage to property

· 14 year old of Aurora charged with criminal damage to property

All three juveniles were released to their parents and pending disposition of the case.
