Coyote Sighting on July 5th & Important information

A coyote was spotted by DeVoe Lake on July 5th approximately 10:00 PM by someone fishing in the area of Dominos Pizza and Immaculate Conception. He was using a bag of chicken livers as bait and the strong scent could have possibly drawn the coyote to him. Spotswood Police were notified and there is a ongoing investigation. At the bottom is a website from the NJ Division of Fish and Game with important information about coyotes. Rest assured we are taking this matter with high regard and want to be proactive.

We have been in close contact with the Warden from the NJ Division of Fish & Game about the coyote sighting. I have been informed that a coyote has been in the Spotswood area for at least three weeks. Coyotes have also been reported in our neighboring towns of East Brunswick and Monroe.

Use caution when letting out small pets and don't allow young children unattended at night. If you come into contact with a coyote, below are some examples of how to act and what to do.

1. Don't turn your back on the coyote and run
2. If by some small chance you have a whistle, blow it loudly to scare away the coyote
3. Yell loudly and clap your hands to scare off the coyote
4. If you can grab a large stick and throw it at the coyote

Here is information from the NJ Division of Fish and Game about coyotes and everything you need to know.
