*UPDATE* Homicide Detectives Continue Inves into Deputy-Involved Shooting, 43400 blk West Ave K-4, Lancaster #LASD

On Friday, July 3, 2015 at approximately 11:30 PM, detectives from the Gang Unit, Operation Safe Streets Bureau, were patrolling in the 43400 block of West Avenue K-4, Lancaster. They stopped their patrol vehicle to contact the suspect and his friend. 

As the deputies exited their patrol vehicle the suspect, a Hispanic man, took an assault pistol out from under his jacket and a deputy involved shooting took place.    

The suspect was shot in the upper torso and was pronounced dead at the scene.  The suspects’ friend ran away across a dirt field and out of view.

The suspect’s handgun, a semi-automatic assault pistol, was recovered next to his body.

At this time the name of the suspect is unknown.

No deputies were injured during this incident.

TIME:   11:35 p.m.

LOCATION:   43400 block of West Avenue K-4, Lancaster

SUSPECTS:  Two male adults   

UNIT:  Homicide Bureau - Lieutenant Corina

NARRATIVE:  

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau detectives are responding to the 43400 block of West Avenue K-4, Lancaster, to investigate the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting.

No deputies were injured. One suspect was wounded, and a second suspect is still outstanding.

A containment has been established and a search for the second suspect is being conducted.

There is no more information available at this time.

Whenever an Officer Involved Shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies and it results in the wounding of a suspect, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Office of the Los Angeles County District Attorney in addition to investigations by Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. The Office of the Inspector General is also present. Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.
