Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 06-22-15 at approximately 2:20 p.m., a 20-year old Daly City resident was involved in a hit and run collision in the area of Hickey Boulevard and Callan Boulevard. A witness followed him to the 500 block of Clarinada Avenue. Officers arrested the subject for hit and run, driving under the influence and for not having a driver's license.

On Wednesday, 06-24-15 at 4:07 p.m., a 33-year old Daly City resident was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and felony child endangerment after she repeatedly ran her vehicle (with her 5-year old child in the passenger seat) onto the curb in the rear parking lot on the 6800 block of Mission Street. The child was unharmed.

On Sunday, 06-28-15 at 7:26 p.m., officers conducted a probation search of a home on the 600 block of San Diego Avenue. Officers found a gun partially hidden in the garage. Upon closer inspection, the officer saw that it was a pellet gun; however, the distinguished color tip on the barrel was removed to make the gun appear more realistic. The gun was found in an area clear of dust and debris, although the surrounding area was covered in dust and cobwebs. The 42-year old subject who was on probation said a friend gave him the gun, and he forgot it was there. Officers issued him a citation for altering the markings on an imitation firearm.

Fireworks in Daly City

Fireworks are illegal in Daly City. This includes the “safe and sane” types that are sold in nearby cities. On the days leading up to each 4th of July, as well as the actual day and after, fireworks are one of the biggest causes of fires and injuries throughout the United States. Let’s keep our City safe and free from any potential disasters. The Daly City Police Department personnel will be on heightened patrol looking for people using fireworks. People in possession of or using any fireworks will be subject to a citation/arrest by an officer. This includes fireworks that are purchased from another city. In California, it is a misdemeanor to possess illegal fireworks. This could be punishable by a fine of not less than $500, and no more than $1,000 or by imprisonment in a county jail for up to one year. The Daly City Police Department takes this very seriously. In addition, parents may be held liable for any damages or injuries caused by their children’s use of illegal fireworks.

Please act responsibly and plan ahead. Information on where firework displays and festivities are located can be found online:

Backpack and School Supply Drive

In partnership with Starbucks, the Town of Colma, the Daly City Partnership and the Daly City Police and Fire Departments, the City of Daly City is collecting school supplies and backpacks for school-age children. Backpacks and school supplies can be donated and dropped off at any Daly City or Colma fire station, police department or Starbucks. Monetary donations are also accepted online at www.dcpartnership.org , or by making a check donation payable to Daly City Partnership.

If you know of a child who may need assistance with school supplies, the child’s family may sign up at the Daly City Community Service Center located at 350-90th Street, Daly City. Enrollment guidelines are proof of income and residency (some South San Francisco and Brisbane families may apply if their children are enrolled in a Daly City school).

Questions about the program can be made directly to Pat Bohm, Executive Director of Daly City Partnership, at [email protected] or by calling the Community Service Center at (650) 991-8007.

Nextdoor.com

This is a free private social network for you, your neighbors and your community which allows you to talk to your neighbors on line. This, in turn, People use Nextdoor for many reasons: to quickly get the word out about crimes in the area, organize a Neighborhood Watch Group, track down a trustworthy babysitter, find referrals for businesses, looking for lost pets, finding new homes for unwanted items (furniture, bicycles, etc.), and many other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. There is a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
