Celebrate the 4th of July Responsibly - Leave the Fireworks to the Pros

Each year, Independence Day celebrations result in emergency rooms being flooded with fireworks-related injuries. Despite the dangers of illegal fireworks, few people understand the associated risks, which include devastating burns, injuries, fires, and even death.

The County of Santa Clara recently passed a new Ordinance which expands the ban of fireworks to include those labeled “Safe and Sane,” such as sparklers, spinners and snakes. Although some of us grew up with these types of fireworks, they are the biggest contributor to burn injuries to children and possession or use of them is now a misdemeanor offense.

With the severe drought conditions across the State, our communities are at even greater risk of fire due to illegal use of fireworks. The National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area announced today a rapid rise in temperatures is expected over the next few days, further contributing to the fire-risk.

We ask that you please celebrate the 4th of July responsibly and leave the fireworks to the professionals.
