Operation Dry Water weekend June 26-28, 2015
On June 26-28, the Green Bay Police Department will be participating Operation Dry Water, a nationwide crackdown on boating under the influence.
Officers will be conducting heightened Boating under the Influence (BUI) enforcement, arresting those who choose to boat under the influence, and educating the public on the dangers of boating under the influence.
Last year, during Operation Dry Water 2014, more than 6,950 officers from 585 local, state, and federal agencies across the nation participated in Operation Dry Water. Over the three-day weekend law enforcement officers contacted 58,670 vessels and 146,711 boaters, made 318 BUI arrests, and issued 18,607 citations and warnings for safety violations.
Alcohol use is the leading contributing factor in recreational boating fatalities. In 2014, alcohol use was a factor in nearly one-fourth (21%) of boating deaths. Safety on the river is paramount and we encourage all boaters to follow the rules and boat safely.
