Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing to assist Azusa Police Department personnel with an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Officer-Involved Shooting in the 5000 block of North Conwell Avenue, unincorporated Azusa. 

Detectives have identified the suspect in the shooting as 45-year-old Jose Juarez.  He is a resident of the city of Azusa.

The investigation is still on-going.

There is no additional information at this time.

On Thursday, June 25, 2015 at approximately 11:20 p.m., two Azusa Police Department officers were patrolling the area of the 5400 block of North Conwell Avenue, unincorporated Azusa, when they saw the suspect walking on the sidewalk.  The suspect ran from the officers and hid behind a vehicle.  The suspect ran from the officers, again, and into the driveway of a residence, as the officers followed him on foot.  While in the driveway of the residence, the suspect armed himself with a yard rake and threw it at the officers.  He then armed himself, again, with a shovel and began swinging it at the officers multiple times, striking one of the officers in the chest area, and an officer-involved shooting occurred.

During the altercation with the suspect, a Taser was deployed and proved to be ineffective on the suspect.

The suspect was transported to local hospital and is in stable condition, with non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

The investigation is still on-going.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives are assisting Azusa Police Department investigation into the circumstances surrounding an officer involved shooting in the 5000 block of North Conwell Avenue, unincorporated Azusa.

No officers were injured.  The suspect was struck by gunfire and has been transported to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.
