PRESS RELEASE

At approximately 9:40am an 83 year old man was walking south on the Ohlone pathway near Gladys Avenue when he was approached by 3 males one of whom produced a handgun and demanded his money and property. The suspects were frightened away without obtaining any money or property when another citizen approached. The victim although very shaken by the incident did not receive any injuries. The suspects were described as:
Suspect 1: 18-24 year old black male, 6’ tall, thin build wearing a red hooded sweatshirt
Suspect 2: 18-24 year old white male, 6’ tall, thin build, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt
Suspect 3: 18-24 year old white male, 6’ tall, thin build, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt
**All three suspects had red bandannas covering their faces at the time of the robbery**
During the initial investigation responding officers also received information from a resident that a possible suspect was observed fleeing on Madison Avenue west of San Pablo Ave. Based on this information, Madison Ave between S. 57th Street and S. 56th Street was closed and a nearby children’s care center placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. The follow up search and investigation determined the information received from the citizen witness was inaccurate. The investigation into this robbery / elder abuse case continues.
