Saugus, Zone 4, Public Safety and Crime Prevention Information for the week of 06/15/15 to 06/21/15.

A residential burglary was reported from the 28100 block of Anvil Court.  In this incident the suspect possibly entered through an attached garage door.  The suspect stole a Dell laptop, a Canon camera, $35000 cash, iPad and personal identification. 

A commercial burglary was reported from the 26600 block of Bouquet Canyon Road.  The suspect pried open the rear door of the business and entered the location. It is unknown if anything was taken.

There was a petty theft from a vehicle reported near the 28300 block of Visco Court.  The victim left his windows down a few inches and the suspect was able to easily gain entry to the vehicle.  The suspect stole a HP laptop and an ID card. 

A blue 2011 “Husa” motorcycle was stolen from the 20800 block of Kingscrest Drive.  The motorcycle was parked in the victim’s driveway and is still outstanding.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station will be conducting multiple illegal fireworks operations between now and the Fourth of July.  All persons found in violation of the below Santa Clarita Municipal Code sections, Health and Safety Code sections or Los Angeles County Fire Code sections will be cited and have their illegal fireworks confiscated.

SANTA CLARITA MUNICIPAL CODES

9.60.030 Fireworks within city limits

A.    Except as otherwise provided, it is unlawful for any person to handle, give away, sell, offer for sale, solicit the sale of, manufacture, possess, purchase, use, ignite, explode, fire, or otherwise discharge any fireworks within the city of Santa Clarita or to aid or abet any of the above with respect to fireworks as defined.

B.    Any property owner or person in control of property who allows a person to sell, use, discharge, or possess fireworks, or provide fireworks to a minor, on the property owned by such a person or under such person’s control shall be in violation of this chapter, regardless of such person’s intent, knowledge or negligence, such violation being hereby expressly declared a strict liability offense. (Ord. 08-9 § 2, 8/26/08)

 

 

9.60.050 Penalties

A.    Any violation of the provisions of this chapter which is found to be an infraction shall be punishable by a fine of five hundred dollars ($500) for the first offense and one thousand dollars ($1,000) for any subsequent offenses.

B.    In addition to any and all fines or other punishment for noncompliance with this chapter, fireworks within the limits of the City of Santa Clarita are subject to confiscation and destruction by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department. 12529 H&S- Unlawful possession of explosives.  (Felony)

12671 H&S- Sell, offer for sale, use, possess, store or transport any type of firework without the State

                      Fire Marshal seal. (Misdemeanor)

12677 H&S- Possession of dangerous fireworks without a permit. (Misdemeanor)

12680(a) H&S- Discharge dangerous fireworks with likelihood of causing injury or fear.  (Misdemeanor)

Penalties

12700(a) H&S- Except as provided in Section 12702 and subdivision (b), a person who violates any provision of this part, or any regulations issued pursuant to this part, is guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine of not less than five hundred dollars ($500) or more than one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by imprisonment in the county jail for not exceeding one year, or by both that fine and imprisonment.

Los Angeles County Fire Code

3301.1.3 LACFC- Possession of Fireworks (All types of fireworks).

Penalties

Penalties for possession or use of fireworks can range from a fine of up to one thousand dollars ($1000), to confinement in a county jail for up to one year.
