Press Release - Fatal Traffic Collision

At approximately 10:20 am, the Newport Beach Police Department’s Dispatch Center was notified of a major injury traffic collision at the intersection of Jamboree Road and Bristol Street.  The collision primarily involved two vehicles: a black Chevrolet Suburban that had been proceeding eastbound on Bristol Street and a grey Toyota Corolla that had been proceeding northbound on Jamboree Road.  A third vehicle (a black Porsche) was struck by debris.

Each vehicle had a single occupant at the time of the collision.  The female driver of the Corolla did not require medical attention.  The driver of the Suburban, a 17-year-old male resident of Newport Beach, was ejected from his car during the collision and suffered life-threatening injuries.

Three Newport Beach Fire Department vehicles and ten Fire Department personnel responded to the scene.  On arrival, they performed advanced lifesaving techniques on the driver of the Suburban, and continued their efforts while transporting him to a trauma center for additional medical treatment.  Several hours later, the young man succumbed to injuries sustained during the collision and was pronounced deceased at Mission Hospital.

The circumstances of the collision are still under investigation.  If anyone has information regarding this collision, please contact Investigator Scott Grecco at 949-644-3747 or [email protected].
