North Aurora Police investigating disturbance, car in Fox River
North Aurora, IL – At about 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17th, patrol officers of the North Aurora Police Department were dispatched to the area of State St. & the Fox River for a report of a possible accident.
Upon arrival, officers found a 2005 Nissan Maxima in the Fox River between the dam and the State St. bridge about 25 feet from the east bank of the river. Both occupants, a 48 year old male of Aurora and a 46 year old female of Aurora, were already out of the vehicle on land. The female sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Presence Mercy Hospital by North Aurora Fire Department ambulance.
Officers learned that the male & female were in the Maxima in North Aurora Island Park (south side of State St.) when a Nissan Pathfinder arrived. The Maxima then left the park northbound bound at a high rate of speed and was struck by the Pathfinder before leaving the roadway on the north side of State St., crashing through a fence, going down a hill, and landing in the Fox River.
The driver of the Pathfinder, a 41 year old male of Aurora, was arrested & charged with domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor. He attended a bond hearing yesterday and later posted the required $500 bond and was released.
The Maxima was removed from the river at approximately 5:00 p.m. by a private towing & recovery service. A portion of the Fox River Trail behind North Aurora Village Hall was closed for approximately two hours during the recovery. There were no road closures as a result of the recovery.
The incident remains under investigation.
