INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Twentynine Palms Hwy (SR 62) & Ronald Drive, Yucca Valley, CA

INVOLVED PARTY (1): Kimberly Elliott, age 28, of Joshua Tree resident, driving a white, 2003 Mitsubishi, Gallant

PASSENGER PARTY (1): Christopher Martin, age 29, of Redlands, passenger in the vehicle.


SUMMARY:

On Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at approximately 9:15 p.m., deputies from the Morongo Basin Station responded to the report of a traffic collision in the area of SR62 and Ronald Drive in Yucca Valley. Through investigation, deputies determined that Kimberly Elliott was traveling east on Twentynine Palms Hwy approaching the intersection with Ronald Drive when for an unknown reason, lost control of the vehicle and collided with the dirt embankment on the south side of the roadway. The vehicle rolled over and Elliott was partially ejected. Several drivers stopped to assist the occupants until medical personnel responded to the scene.

Elliott was pronounced deceased at the scene by San Bernardino County Fire Department. Martin was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center for precautionary measures. Martin was determined to be uninjured and was released from the hospital.

Twentynine Palms Highway was closed at Ronald Drive until 5:30 a.m., on Wednesday, June 17, 2015.

The collision is under investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Region II Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.). It appears alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision.
