INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision

LOCATION: 12400 Block of 4th Street, in Rancho Cucamonga
PARTY #1: 77 year old male from Sun City, CA (Deceased)
PARTY #2: Larry Rivera – age 41, of Fontana


SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, June 9, 2015, a fatal traffic collision occurred in the 12400 block of 4th Street, in Rancho Cucamonga. A preliminary investigation has revealed a 77 year old male truck driver from Sun City was making a delivery at the Big Lots Distribution Center. The truck driver parked his tractor trailer in the center median of 4th Street and exited his truck. It appears he was trying to cross the street to check in at the Big Lots entrance prior to driving in.

Party #2, Larry Rivera of Fontana, was driving to work on 4th Street when the truck driver crossed the road in front of him. The truck driver was struck, Mr. Rivera immediately stopped and rendered aid.

Members of the Ontario Fire Department responded to the scene. The truck driver was transported to Kaiser Hospital Fontana where he was pronounced deceased.

Members of the Rancho Cucamonga Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating the collision. At this point, it does not appear speed and/or alcohol were contributing factors. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who might have additional information pertinent to the case is encouraged to contact investigators at the numbers listed below.

Unfortunately, this is a reminder of how dangerous it is and a violation of the vehicle code to park in a center median.
