On 06 June 2015 at approximately 0900 hours, a small number of  members of the Westboro Baptist Church conducted a protest in the 1300 block of N. DuPont Street.  A large number of counter protesters assembled adjacent to them. During the event,  a male identified as Richard Pierce,64, of Wilmington threw a cup of coffee on one of the Westboro protesters.  The victim was uninjured  and refused prosecution. However, Wilmington Police Officers were on scene maintaining order and were present during the incident.  Pierce was taken into custody without incident and subsequently charged  with Disorderly Conduct. He was later released on OR bond. No other arrests were made and the protest ended after approximately one hour.
