Gun Safety Awareness Day and Free Gun Safety Lock Give-Away Program - Friday, June 5th 2015
The Farmington Hills Police Department supports the Oakland County Sheriff, Oakland County Commissioners, Project Child Safe, The National Shooting Sports Foundation, and other Law Enforcement Agencies June 5th, Gun Safety Awareness Day and Free Gun Safety Lock Give-Away Program. Farmington Hills residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and practice gun safety every day of the year. The Farmington Hills Police Department has free gun locks available for residents at the front lobby Command Desk all year long, day or night.
Farmington Hills Police Chief Chuck Nebus encourages all gun owners to discuss gun safety at home and remind young children that if they ever encounter a gun to “not touch it and immediately tell an adult.”
Additionally, always remember the four cardinal rules of firearm safety:
1. Treat every firearm as if it were loaded.
2. Point your firearms in a safe direction.
3. Keep your finger off the trigger and outside the trigger guard until you are on target and have decided to fire.
4. Be sure of your target/threat, backstop, and beyond.
