ORIGINAL REALEASE:

On June 2, 2015 at approximately 1227 hours Gilroy Communications received several reports of a solo vehicle collision in the area of Leavesley Road east of Arroyo Circle, in the City of Gilroy. There were also reports of live power lines down in the area of the collision. Police and Fire units were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival found that the collision involved a single vehicle, which had struck a utility pole. The vehicle was overturned and the three occupants of the vehicle had been ejected.

Emergency personnel found the driver suffering from major trauma, with no pulse or breathing. CPR was initiated and medical personnel were able to revive the driver and stabilize him for transport to a bay area trauma center where he was taken to surgery for treatment of his injuries. There is no update on the driver’s condition at this time. One passenger was transported to a trauma center with moderate but non-life threatening injuries. The second passenger was treated and released from the scene for minor injuries.

The factors leading to the cause of the collision are currently under investigation; however the preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling westbound on Leavesley approaching Arroyo Circle when for unknown reasons the driver veered off the roadway and struck the power pole. At this time there is no information available with regard to whether or not drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in this collision.

The collision is being investigated by the Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Officer Drew Viale at (408) 846-0350.
