Information Regarding Monday Transformer Fire in New Brunswick

Just before 11 a.m. today, an underground transformer exploded near the intersection of Bayard Street and Kirkpatrick Street in New Brunswick, causing a fire and evacuation of Civic Square, City Hall, the Middlesex County complex and buildings on Kirkpatrick Street.

No injuries have been reported.

Civic Square's non-essential offices will remain closed until further notice while repair crews work to replace the broken transformer.

City Hall is open and operating as normal.

Kirkpatrick Street between New Street and Bayard Street remains closed at this time.

New Brunswick Municipal Court sessions scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. today, Monday, June 1, have been canceled. Reschedule dates will be sent out in the mail.
