Northwest Modesto Shooting Leaves One Dead

Modesto, CA – Detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 45-year-old Modesto man.
Early this morning officers responded to a local hospital after receiving a report that a man had been shot. Investigating officers learned that the man, Robert Herrera, was involved in an altercation in the 1300 block of Clevenger Drive when shots were fired. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach and was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Detectives were able to identify the shooting suspect as 42-year-old Modesto resident, Pedro Costa. Several search warrants were served at residences associated to Costa throughout the day. He was ultimately taken into custody just after 10:00 PM in the 3600 block of Colonial Dr. and will be booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for murder.
Details leading up to the shooting and a motive are under investigation. Booking photo for Costa is currently unavailable.
