Narrative:
Major Crimes detectives and Jail personnel are investigating an inmate death that occurred at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura. There was no indication of violence or suspicious circumstances.
On May 21, 2015, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Crawford suffered a medical emergency at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility. Deputies and jail medical staff responded immediately and rendered aid. Crawford was transported to Community Memorial Hospital by ambulance. He was pronounced dead on 5/22/15 at about 1:00 a.m. by hospital staff.
The cause of death is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit, pending an autopsy by the Medical Examiner. As a matter of policy and procedure, all inmate deaths are investigated by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit.
