On Sunday, May 10, 2015, at 9:30 p.m., a robbery occurred at the Wells Fargo branch located at 24180 Lyons Avenue, Newhall. The victim had gone to the ATM to make a deposit when he was confronted by a male suspect armed with a handgun. The suspect reportedly allowed the victim to finish his deposit before the suspect used the ATM to choose the withdrawal option. The suspect picked the $100 selection and when the machine provided the money, the suspect took it and fled the location on foot.
The suspect is described as a 20 to 30 year old male White, 5 foot 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds. He was wearing a black, zippered hoodie sweatshirt, black ski mask and grey pants.
Detectives assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Robbery/Assault Team have been assigned the investigation.
Santa Clarita Valley Station personnel would like to remind residents to be mindful of their surroundings when dealing with money or valuables.
· If at all possible, conduct banking during daylight hours when the area is busy.
· If you need to go to the bank during off hours, try to select an ATM which is inside a store, or in a busy well lighted area.
· Bring a friend with you to provide an extra presence.
· Always be vigilant. If someone is invading your personal space, increase the space between you, as distance provides more time to react if necessary.
