LAX Motor Officer Completes 10K Memorial Run in Full Gear
Hundreds Participate in Officer Tommy Scott Memorial 5K/10K Run
LOS ANGELES, CA – Los Angeles Airport Police motor officer Raymond Woods completed the 10K memorial run in honor of fallen LAX officer Tommy Scott in full gear on Sat. May 16 coming in at just under 1 hour and 20 minutes. Woods, a 14-year department veteran and Medal of Valor recipient, ran the entire course adjacent to LAX in full motor uniform, complete with motor boots, belt and helmet to honor Scott who was killed ten years ago at the age of 35 in a carjacking incident after stopping a suspicious man near LAX.
The Tommy Scott Memorial 5K/10K Run was one of several events in Los Angeles commemorating National Police Week and featured hundreds of law enforcement professionals, local runners and community members who came out to pay their respects to Officer Scott and show support for law enforcement officers. Proceeds from the event benefited the Tommy Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund.
"Scott was a junior academy class mate of mine and his locker was directly across from mine, so I saw him everyday," explain Officer Raymond Woods. "Officers from other departments have ran 26 miles in patrol uniform so the least I can do is run a 10K in my boots for Tommy."
