On May 16th, 2015 the Chula Vista Police Department conducted an enforcement operation Lana Del Rey & Courtney Love concert being hosted at the Sleep Train Amphitheatre. During an evening concert, officers arrested 20 people for minor in possession of alcohol. Many of the minors were contacted in the parking lots outside the amphitheatre. They ranged in age from 15 to 20-years-old. Additionally, 1 adult was arrested for furnishing alcohol to a minor and a 15-year-old was arrested for possession of marijuana and destruction of evidence. All of those arrested were released with a misdemeanor citation or released to their parent/guardian with a pending court date.

The penalty for furnishing alcohol to a minor is a minimum $1000 fine and 24 hours of community service. Minors who are convicted of possessing alcohol face a minimum $250 fine and 24 hours of community service.

The program is intended to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors. Statistics show they generally have a higher rate of drunken driving crashes than adults. Studies also show the combination of alcohol and youth tends to increase criminal conduct. According to the American Medical Association, underage drinking can increase chances of risky sexual behavior and teen pregnancy, juvenile delinquency, compromise health, and result in unintentional injury and death.
