Chula Vista Police Seek Help In Identifying Theft Suspect

The suspect is described as a 45-55 year old Hispanic male, 5-8 to 5-10, 170 lbs, receding hair line, mustache, numerous tattoos (fully “sleeved” on both arms), wearing dark sunglasses, a blue basketball/sports jersey with “Boozer” and the number "5" on it, riding a black mountain bike, (photograph taken at the time of the crime).
On 5/11/15 at 1:15 in the afternoon witnesses saw the suspect force entry into a parked truck in the 1600 block of Silva Avenue, Chula Vista. The suspect reached through a slightly open window and unlocked the truck. Once inside he took a white cell phone, a green tote bag, and the stereo from the dashboard. A witness watching from a nearby business alerted other co-workers. One of the co-workers confronted the suspect while he was still inside the truck. The citizen leaned against the passenger door in an attempt to keep the suspect inside the truck until police arrived. The suspect went out the driver side of the truck and confronted the citizen. The suspect made comments about having spent time in prison and then made a motion as if to reach for a knife before riding off on his bike. The citizen was able to grab the green tote bag containing the stolen stereo from the thief, who fled with just the stolen cell phone. The suspect left behind a folding knife found on the seat inside the truck. The woman who first witnessed the vehicle burglary took several photos of the suspect with her cell phone. (one attached)
The suspect is wanted for the burglary to the truck and the robbery of the cell phone. Anyone with information about the suspect is encouraged to call The Chula Vista Police Department’s Crimes of Violence Unit, Det. Joe Page, (619) 691-5207, or (619) 691-5151.
