Detectives Identify Suspect in West Modesto Homicide Investigation

***Updated Press Relase With Suspect Information***

Modesto CA – Sheriff’s detectives have identified Christopher Jose Schopp of Modesto as a suspect in the homicide investigation of Vang Xiong on May 01, 2015. Detectives believe Schopp lured Xiong and his brother to an orchard in the 2600 Block of W. Whitmore Avenue in Modesto at approximately 7:15 PM for a drug deal. There were two additional men with Schopp that were armed and during the drug deal one of the men shot Xiong.

Xiong’s brother began to drive him to the hospital prior to calling 911 and stopped in the area of Kansas Avenue and Franklin Street in Modesto for help. An ambulance transported Xiong to the hospital, but he later died as a result of his gunshot wounds. Schopp and the two men fled in an unknown type car and were last seen driving east on W. Whitmore Avenue.

Christopher Jose Schopp is wanted for murder and criminal conspiracy. He is described as a Hispanic male adult 5’6” tall and weighs 145 lbs. He has long brown hair in a pony tail and brown eyes. If you see Schopp please call 911.

Modesto, CA - On 05-01-15 at 7:35 PM Deputies were dispatched to Kansas Avenue and N. Franklin Street in Modesto, CA for a man who had been shot. When deputies arrived CHP and emergency medical personnel were already on scene. The victim, 24 year old Xiong Vang from Merced, CA was transported to the emergency room, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

Detectives worked throughout the night processing the crime scene and interviewing witnesses. Detectives believe that Vang was shot in the 6200 Block of Whitmore Avenue in Modesto, CA. A family member transported Vang to the hospital after he had been shot and decided to call 911 when they were on Kansas Avenue.

Detectives are working on what led up to Vang being shot in the 6200 Block of Whitmore Avenue and at this time there is no suspect information.
