BRIGANTINE SUBSTANCE ABUSE SUMMIT AND MEDICATION DROP

April 28, 2015
PRESS RELEASE
BRIGANTINE SUBSTANCE ABUSE SUMMIT AND MEDICATION DROP
Submitted by: Chief Timothy Reed

The Brigantine Police Department, Join Together Atlantic County and the Atlantic County Municipal Alliance would like to invite everyone to attend an event on opiate addiction. The Brigantine Substance Abuse Summit Prescription Use/Heroin Abuse: Focusing on Solutions, will be held 6:00-8:30pm on Thursday, May 7th 2015 at the Brigantine Beach Community Center. Speakers will be presenting information on what community members can do to help prevent substance abuse and addiction to opiates and other drugs.
On a county-wide level, we have recently had an alarming increase in heroin and opiate overdoses. All across the state, municipalities have been holding local events to focus on prescription drug abuse, specifically opiate addiction and the link to heroin use.
Speakers will include community members, law enforcement officials and persons directly affected by substance abuse. The Atlantic County Alliance will be presenting a free Naloxone training immediately following the presentation. Registration is not necessary but encouraged for the Naloxone training. To register for the Naloxone training please call 609-345-2020. If you would like to attend the educational event only, registration is not required.
Immediately prior to the presentations there will be a medication drop in the lobby of the Community Center. This will begin at 5:30 p.m. Please clean out your medicine cabinet of all old medications. Bring them to the Community Center and representatives from The Atlantic County Sheriff’s Department will properly dispose of them.
This event is being hosted by the Brigantine Police Department in a formed partnership with Join Together Atlantic County, a substance abuse prevention coalition and the Atlantic County Municipal Alliance. The suggested age group for attendance is 13 and older.
Sincerely,
Timothy J. Reed
Chief of Police
