Seeking public’s help identifying shooting suspect

The Arlington Police Department is requesting assistance from the public in identifying the man who fatally shot a 21-year-old man who recently moved to Dallas from Michigan. On Sunday, Charles Harris was playing basketball with friends when three strangers asked to join in on a game. During the game, Mr. Harris and one of the unknown men became involved in an altercation. As Mr. Harris and his friends walked to their vehicle, the man who had been involved in the altercation over the basketball game fired a handgun in the direction of Mr. Harris and his friends. Mr. Harris was shot and driven to a local hospital by his friends, but ultimately died from his injuries.

The shooting suspect is described as having a hairstyle of shoulder-length dreadlocks with blonde tips and facial hair shaped into a goatee. Witnesses described the suspect as wearing a white tank top, white shorts with a light blue trim at the bottom, tall black socks, and royal blue Nike Air Force One high top shoes. Included here is a composite sketch of the suspect.

Detectives investigating fatal shooting of man after altercation

The Arlington Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred last night after an altercation at a park. Officers were dispatched to an emergency call at 7 p.m., Sunday, May 3, 2015, to a local hospital. When officers arrived, they learned that the victim had been shot at a park in the 2100 block of Overlook Drive and was transported to the hospital by private vehicle.

Early into the investigation, it is believed that the victim was playing basketball at the park when he got into an argument and pushing match with an unknown man. As the victim and his friends walked away, the same man shot the victim and fled the area on foot. The victim’s friends drove him to Arlington Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The name of the shooting victim will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner once next of kin has been notified and his identify has been verified.

As this investigation continues, detectives are talking to witnesses to gather more information about the identity of the shooter and evaluating the crime scene for evidence.
