Texas Crime Stoppers is a program within the Office of the Governor under the Criminal Justice Division that encourages, supports and fosters the development of local crime stoppers organizations as a way to prevent crime. In response to the state’s soaring crime rate, the Texas Crime Stoppers Council was created in 1981 to advise the Governor on Crime Stoppers operations in Texas. Texas Crime Stoppers is charged with providing resources to local crime stopper organizations through training and certification, administering grants to local programs from the state appropriated Crime Stoppers Assistance Fund, and engaging citizens to increase awareness and protect communities from crime.
Mission: To assist law enforcement with crime detection by encouraging persons to report information about crimes in their communities while remaining anonymous.
