Improving Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Aim of Santa Rosa Police Department Operation
The Santa Rosa Police Department conducted a special enforcement operation on Thursday, April 30, 2015, aimed at improving pedestrian and bicycle safety. This operation was conducted in the downtown area of Santa Rosa. During this operation 17 citations were issued for pedestrian and bicycle violations. These violations included drivers who violated the right of way for pedestrians and bicyclist. Additionally, 15 other citations were issued to motorists for other vehicle code violations such as cell phones, seatbelts and failure to yield
Assisting traffic officers from the Santa Rosa Police Department in their education and enforcement efforts were traffic officers from the California Highway Patrol, Windsor Police Department and Healdsburg Police Department. There were a total of 8 motor officers and 3 bicycle officers that participated in this operation. This operation was part of the ongoing Combined Intensive Traffic Enforcement (C.I.T.E.) program established between several agencies within Sonoma County.
Operations like this are aimed at reducing pedestrian and bicyclist collisions.
The Santa Rosa Police Department is reminding all motorists to always be alert and watch out for pedestrians and bicyclists.
