CHULA VISTA POLICE DEPARTMENT HOSTS LEAD CLASS

CHULA VISTA POLICE DEPARTMENT HOSTS LEAD CLASS

Chula Vista, Calif. – On April 28th, 2015 the Chula Vista Police Department hosted a Licensee Education on Alcohol and Drugs (LEAD) class for employees of ABC regulated businesses in the South Bay Area. The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) provided funding through the Grant Assistance Program (GAP), an annual grant that Chula Vista was awarded in 2014. The ABC also provided the instructor for the class, which was held at the Chula Vista Police Department. About 28 employees from restaurants, bars, and convenience/liquor stores throughout the South Bay region attended the class. The class included education on issues of over-service, narcotics awareness, identification of underage patrons, and other alcohol-related topics.
In 2014 the Chula Vista City Council passed a City ordinance requiring on-sale ABC licensees and their employees to complete training in the responsible service of alcoholic beverages. This ordinance requires each on-sale alcohol licensee, manager and server to complete training within six months from the effective date of this chapter (July 3, 2014), start of employment, or from start of business, whichever date is earliest.
There will be 7 additional LEAD training classes in Chula Vista this year. Students may register Online at https://www.tracelead.abc.ca.gov/traceleadpublic/ (click on “LEAD classes”).
