OSBI Agents Investigate Fatal Chickasha Officer-Involved Shooting
At approximately 7:30 this evening, the Chickasha Police Department requested OSBI investigate a fatal officer-involved shooting. OSBI investigative and crime scene agents are at the scene gathering information, collecting evidence, and documenting the scene. Just before 7 pm the police department was alerted to a burglary in the 1200 block of S. 16 Street. The reporting individual was able to identify the two men she found inside her home. In route to the home of one suspect, officers saw both men walking in the 1200 block of Florida. Officers were familiar with both men. One man ran from officers. Officers pursued the man until they lost sight of him. Officers then went to the nearby home of the suspect who did not run from officers. Inside the home, two Grady County deputies and one Chickasha police officer found the burglary suspect who ran from them. The suspect produced a knife. Officers told him numerous times to drop the knife. The Chickasha officer fired his weapon killing the suspect. OSBI will conduct a thorough investigation of the shooting. Once the investigation is completed, agents will provide the district attorney with a report. The district attorney will determine, based on the facts in the report, whether the shooting was justified.
