CPD Investigating Morning Bank Robbery

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook announces that CPD is investigating another bank robbery in South Columbia that may have been committed by the same suspect from similar crimes.

Today’s robbery happened shortly after 9:30 a.m. at the Wells Fargo Bank located at 4800 Garners Ferry Road. Investigators are releasing surveillance pictures of the suspect to aid in identifying and locating him.

The other similar crimes occurred at:

2600 Rosewood Drive – First Citizens Bank on 4/24/15
6700 Garners Ferry Road – Wells Fargo on 4/25/15

In all of the robberies, a heavy set black male wearing eyeglasses passes the bank clerk a note to demand money.

While it is not believed that he shows a weapon, he allegedly threatens physical harm if employees don’t comply with his demands.

In each case, the man steals money before leaving the bank.

Chief Holbrook encourages citizens with information about these incidents to call, text or submit online, their anonymous tip to Crimestoppers in any of the following ways:

Tipsters could earn a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
