Advisory

Green Bay Police launch new initiative to help recover stolen property: Serial Number Awareness Program (SNAP)

We at the Green Bay Police Department hope that you are never a victim of theft. Unfortunately, thefts do occur but there is something you can do to increase the odds of getting your property back. We recommend that you record serial numbers and descriptions of your valuables. In order to make this easier for you, we have created a website where you can store this information. You can create your own password protected account. The information will be stored on a secure server in case it is necessary for you to retrieve or update anything.

A large portion of stolen property is resold. Second hand stores record the property they take in and send this information to the police. Without identifiable information, like a serial number, stolen property often goes undetected and is unlikely to be returned.

Insurance companies recommend the practice of recording the serial numbers of your valuables, especially electronics. Please share this information with your family, friends and neighbors. Encourage them to participate. Even if you decide not to use this website, at least consider recording information about your belongings for your own records. You can download a property catalog form for free from this website. Whatever method you choose, please record your serial numbers!

The website is: snap.gbpolice.org
This service is free of charge.
