Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 04-13-15 at 10:26 p.m., Officer Joshua Moala contacted a subject who was pacing back and forth at the intersection of Junipero Serra Boulevard and 88th Street. Since this area has been experiencing a rash of auto burglaries, Officer Moala asked the subject what he was doing in the area. The subject said he had gotten off of BART but couldn’t tell the officer just why he was in the area. Officer Moala noticed a large knife handle hanging out of the subject’s jacket pocket and asked the subject if he could search him. In the subject’s left pants pocket, the officer found a can of pepper spray and in the right pants pocket, he found a glass pipe commonly used to smoke crack cocaine. The subject, a 60-year old San Francisco resident, was a convicted felon and was arrested for being a convicted felon in possession of tear gas and for possession of unlawful paraphernalia.

On Thursday, 04-9-15 between 3:45 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., a subject spray painted graffiti on the water tower located at Southgate Avenue and Montrose Drive. With the help of an alert neighbor, on 04-14-15, officers were able to identify the suspect who admitted to doing the graffiti on the water tower as well as eleven other locations in Daly City. A complaint will be sought against the 18-year old Daly City resident.

On Tuesday, 04-14-15 at 2:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to the IHOP restaurant on a report of a male subject sleeping in the restaurant for four hours. An employee tried to wake up the subject but was unsuccessful. While the officers were waking up the subject to find out his identity, the subject brushed a napkin on the table which revealed a used glass smoking pipe used to ingest crack cocaine. As the officers were searching the subject’s bag for his identification, they found nine used glass pipes, as well as seven individually rocks of crack cocaine. Officers asked the subject, a 37-year old San Francisco resident, how much he sold the crack cocaine for, and he said he didn’t sell it. The officers said that amount was a lot for one person, but the subject said he could smoke that much in one day. They arrested for the subject for possession of a controlled substance and for possession of paraphernalia.

On Tuesday, 04-14-15 at 5:19 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 6200 block of Mission Street on a report of a female subject who had a bottle of liquor in her hand and was yelling at people while they walked by her. Officer Greg Grogan arrived and saw the subject drinking from a 24 ounce can of malt liquor. When the subject saw the officer, she immediately placed the can on the steps behind her. The officer asked if he could search her and her purse, and the subject consented. Throughout the interaction with the subject, Officer Grogan and the officers who were assisting him were yelled at by the intoxicate subject. Officer Grogan placed the 50-year old San Francisco resident under arrest for public intoxication and was walking her to his patrol car when she spat in the officer’s face. She was then additionally charged with battery upon a peace officer.

On Thursday, 04-16-16 at approximately 3:15 a.m., several officers were dispatched to the Town Motel on Geneva Avenue on a report of an in-progress vehicle burglary. Dispatchers advised the reporting party interrupted the burglary and was following the suspect on foot. Officer Christian Poteat arrived in the area and located the subject nearby. Officers arrested the 31-year old Santa Rosa resident for attempted burglary and vandalism.

On Thursday, 04-16-15, detectives arrested two subjects who robbed a cab driver on Clarinada Avenue on 03-28-15. (This case was listed in the 04-03-15 bulletin.)

On Friday 04-17-15 at 2:11 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Gambetta Street on a report of an assault with a deadly weapon that occurred a few minutes prior. The dispatchers advised that one suspect was described as a white male between 24-30 years old, 5’11”, approximately 210 lbs., with a full beard and wore a light colored hooded sweatshirt and a black beanie cap. The other suspect was described as a black male in his 30’s, 6’1”, approximately 250 lbs. wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a black beanie cap. The 32-year old victim said he had arrived home and parked his vehicle in the garage of the apartment and then stepped into the garage, closing the garage door. He walked to the rear of the garage and saw two males hiding between his other vehicle and another vehicle. The victim asked the subjects what they were doing there, and they began to use profanities and told him to mind his own business. The victim said the white subject picked up a metal pipe and hit him in the chest which caused him to double over. The victim said as he was grabbing onto his chest, he was hit in the back by the white male. As this was happening, the victim said the black male struck him with closed fists about the head, face, and shoulders. The subjects then fled the area in an unknown direction.

On Saturday, 04-18-15 at 8:27 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Mission Street and Evergreen Avenue on a report of a hit and run traffic collision involving a pedestrian. Witnesses were able to obtain a license plate number of the vehicle and a description of the driver. Officers went to the house where the vehicle was registered and saw the driver parking his vehicle. The driver, a 47-year old San Francisco resident, denied hitting anyone. Witnesses positively identified the driver and his vehicle. Officers arrested the driver for hit and run, as well as being an unlicensed driver. The 17-year old victim complained of pain to her lower back and was released at the scene.

There were five arrests made for people who were driving under the influence of alcohol and one for driving under the influence of drugs this past week.

Nextdoor.com

This is a free private social network for you, your neighbors and your community which allows you to talk to your neighbors on line. This, in turn, People use Nextdoor for many reasons: to quickly get the word out about crimes in the area, organize a Neighborhood Watch Group, track down a trustworthy babysitter, find referrals for businesses, looking for lost pets, finding new homes for unwanted items (furniture, bicycles, etc.), and many other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. There is a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
