Missing boat located in Marin County
On April 17, 2015, at approximately 2230 hours, , the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office received a request from the US Coast Guard to assist with searching for a missing boat from the Bodega Bay area. The boat, a 21 foot pleasure craft, was reported to have four occupants on board and was overdue to arrive back at the Westshore boat ramp at 1800 hours.
The Sheriff’s Office dispatched units to the area to assist with the search. The deputies searched the coastal area in the Bodega Bay region but were unable to locate the missing boat. Due to extremely poor visibility, the Sheriff’s Office Helicopter, Henry 1, was not able to lift off to assist with the search.
Today, April 18, 2015, at 0930 hours, the visibility improved in the coastal area and Henry 1 lifted off to assist with the search. Along with Sheriff’s Office ground units and the US Coast Guard rescue boat, Henry 1 searched the coastline.
At approximately 1013 hours, Henry 1 located the missing boat, which was overturned in the rocks near Tomales Point in Marin County. Two of the missing boaters were found deceased in the area of the overturned boat and a search was continuing for the two missing boaters.
The vessel accident occurred in Marin County under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service and will be investigated by the appropriate authorities from Marin County.
