National Volunteer Week #sheriffvc
Nature of Incident: National Volunteer Week
Location: City of Thousand Oaks
Date & Time: April 17, 2015
Unit Responsible: Thousand Oaks Volunteers In Policing Program
Narrative:
The Thousand Oaks Police Department is proud of our volunteer programs every day, especially during National Volunteer Week. Each day, including weekends and holidays, members of our community donate their time and expertise to the police department. Our volunteers work hand in hand with our patrol officers, detectives, and administrative personnel making the City of Thousand Oaks one of the safest cities in California.
The Thousand Oaks Police Department has numerous volunteer programs. Over 200 volunteers participate in the Volunteers in Policing (VIP) Program, Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART), Explorer Program, and Auxiliary Communication Service (ACS). Each program fulfills a different role within the police department and provides service to the City of Thousand Oaks.
Each year, Thousand Oaks Police volunteers work thousands of hours. These hours translate into a cost savings of hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to the City of Thousand Oaks. They also provide extra eyes and ears patrolling the streets, the extra set of hands we need during emergencies, and the support we need to complete various tasks.
If you are interested in volunteering, The Thousand Oaks Police Department has a position for you. Our volunteers bring a vast amount of experience and knowledge to the police department. There are numerous assignments where volunteers can see tangible results and receive immediate gratification that they are making a difference.
