Advisory

Beware of phone scams and other con artists activities.

The Green Bay Police Department is reminding citizens to beware of phone scams and other con artists attempts to fraudulently obtain funds from unsuspecting people.

There have been a number of different attempts, either by phone or in person at residences in Green Bay and other communities, by con artists trying to defraud people out of money. This community message is just another reminder to everyone that they should be cautious when giving out their personal information, credit card numbers, social security numbers, and the like.

Recently we had a report of a resident in Green Bay that received a call from a person posing as a Green Bay Police Officer stating that the person had a warrant for their arrest. The con on the phone asked and received a credit card number from the GB resident and the con stated the warrant would be cleared. We do not call people and ask them to clear up their warrants over the phone. This is a fraud.

Again, this type of scam and others has happened and may continue to happen and we urge everyone to be mindful and diligent if/when it happens, don't give out their information over the phone, and call their local police department to report such activity.
