Diaz, Daniel Ojai 24

Narrative:

After being cited for minor traffic violations, Daniel Diaz went to the Ojai Police Station and used large rocks to damage personal and department vehicles parked in the parking lot of the Ojai Police Station.

On April 15, 2015, at about 00:30 hours, Daniel Diaz was stopped by a Sheriff Deputy for several minor traffic violations. Diaz was issued a traffic citation for failing to stop at a stop sign, not having a driver license in possession, not having the vehicle registration, and not having proof of insurance.

About thirty five minutes after the car stop, Sheriff’s Dispatch received a 911 call from a citizen who was observing a male subject throw large rocks at the police station. The subject was reported to be associated with a dark Nissan sedan. The subject and the vehicle that was described by the reporting party matched that of Diaz from the traffic stop earlier. When the first Sheriff’s Deputy arrived at the police station to investigate, he found Diaz’s vehicle stopped on South Ventura Road with the engine running and the keys locked inside the car. The responding deputies also discovered two vehicles in the police station parking lot with significant damage. A short while later Diaz was located in front of Westridge Midtown Market by a deputy searching the surrounding neighborhood for him. Diaz fled on foot from the scene. He was later located. Diaz caused about $4000 in damage to both Sheriff’s vehicles and personally owned vehicles parked at the Ojai Police Station. After being interviewed by detectives, Diaz was booked at the Ventura County Main Jail for 594(a)(b)(1) PC Vandalism over $400, a felony offense. Diaz is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
