The Giles County Sheriff's Department warns citizens of scams, viruses and other malicious programs used to obtain money or other personal and financial information from users of computers connected to the internet. One such scam involves a phone call stating they are from technical services and want to help you get your computer repaired because it has been running slow. Once you allow the caller to connect to your computer the computer suddenly becomes locked and the caller demands you pay him to unlock it or all of your files will be lost. Please do not allow anyone to access your computer remotely based on a call you did not initiate or anyone you do not personally know or hire to work on your computer.
