Catalytic Converter Thefts Occurring in Santa Clarita Valley
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station has received numerous reports of catalytic converter thefts from vehicles.
catalytic converters are part of the vehicle's emission-control system that contain precious metals which thieves sell the converters to metal recyclers. The recyclers then extract the precious metals and resell it. Detectives are investigating these thefts and are seeking the public's help in identifying possible suspects committing these crimes.
The Crime Prevention Unit recommends parking in well-lit areas or parking your vehicle in your home garage, if possible, in order to alleviate having to pay for the replacement of the device or paying an insurance deductible.
Anyone who may have witnessed any incidents relating to such thefts, or if you have any crime information, please contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station at 661-255-1121.
You can also remain anonymous by calling "LA Crime Stoppers" at 800-222-TIPS (8477), texting the letters TIPLA plus your crime to CRIMES (274637), or use the website at LAcrimestoppers.org (reference #01113).
