As a general rule police agencies will normally advise individuals and businesses to be cautious with solicitors and to verify their authenticity prior to making any donations, etc. We do know that in past years around the country there have been solicitations by individuals stating they are representing your local police or fire agency when indeed they are not.

With that being said, the Muskegon Police Department would in particular like to make businesses in Muskegon County aware that the Muskegon Police Department as well as quite a number of other police agencies in the county are using the services of Child Safety of America to provide us with a number of child safety and other publications. This includes such things as Bike Safety, Stranger Danger, Bullying Awareness, Safety in your Neighborhood, Internet Safety, Home Security…..just to name a few. These publications are used throughout the year for presentations and also at special events.

The way it works is that Child Safety of American solicits businesses within the county for sponsorships by which the sponsor’s names appear on a page usually at the front or back of the publication. This covers the cost the publications which are then provided to the participating police agencies.

We would like to make businesses in Muskegon County aware that if they have contact with Mr. K C Wilkinson of Child Safety of America that we are indeed working with him as are a number of other police agencies throughout the County.

We would recommend that if you are ever suspicious of a solicitor who claims to be soliciting on behalf of your local police or fire department that you ask for identification and then follow up by verifying with that local department. However, we do want you to be aware in this particular case that K C Wilkinson of Child Safety of America is indeed soliciting on our behalf for these much needed resources.
