Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 03-30-15 at 12:35 a.m., dispatchers advised officers that a stolen vehicle under surveillance had just been in the area of Wilshire Avenue and Wilshire Court. Officer Shane Hart observed a subject walking away from the vehicle and contacted him. As the subject turned to face the officer, the subject discarded an item behind his back and into shrubs in the front yard of a residence. The item was a pair of pliers, and the subject said he used them to start the engine. The subject, a 53-year old San Francisco resident, had a bench warrant from Daly City P.D. for failing to appear in court on a burglary tools possession case. Officers found a clear glass pipe (used to smoke methamphetamine) in the subject’s jacket. The subject was arrested for vehicle theft with priors, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of burglary tools, possession of drug paraphernalia and for the bench warrant.

On Thursday, 04-02-15 at 4:23 p.m., Officer Nick Ottoboni and Sergeant Mike Brennan made a traffic stop on a vehicle for a stop sign violation at Geneva Avenue and Santos Street. The lone passenger in the rear seat was on “search and seizure” probation in Alameda County. Officers noticed the passenger was pressing a bag against his leg as they were speaking with him. After searching the bag, the officers found a large amount of heroin inside the bag. They then conducted a search of the subject’s nearby hotel room where they found more heroin. Officers arrested the subject, a 50-year old San Francisco resident, for possession of heroin for sales, transportation of heroin for sales, and possession of prescription medication without a prescription.

On Thursday, 04-02-15 at 11:22 p.m., Officer Joshua Moala conducted a pedestrian stop on a subject who was pacing back and forth on the sidewalk on the 6300 block of Mission Street. The subject told the officer he was homeless and was trying to make a bed for the night. The officer asked the subject if he had anything illegal on him, and he asked if he could search him. Officer Moala found several small baggies containing a large white substance believed to be cocaine. The officer arrested the 59-year old subject for possession of crack cocaine for sales, possession of unlawful paraphernalia (crack pipe) and for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

On Sunday, 04-05-15, at 12:55 p.m., a Serramonte Center Security officer called advising he had just seen three males commit an auto burglary and leave in a white Acura. Officers attempted to catch up to the Acura which was already on northbound highway 280 but lost sight of the vehicle. Another officer found the vehicle near the Alemany exit and saw that it had crashed on the off-ramp. The officer saw the subject running toward the Alemany projects and lost sight of him. It was reported that the unknown suspects had possibly thrown a black backpack out the vehicle. Officers found the backpack between the San Jose Avenue ramp and Alemany off ramp. The phone and camera inside the backpack were missing. This investigation is continuing.

Nextdoor.com

This is a free private social network for you, your neighbors and your community which allows you to talk to your neighbors on line. This, in turn, People use Nextdoor for many reasons: to quickly get the word out about crimes in the area, organize a Neighborhood Watch Group, track down a trustworthy babysitter, find referrals for businesses, looking for lost pets, finding new homes for unwanted items (furniture, bicycles, etc.), and many other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. There is a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
