Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Thursday, 03-26-15 at 12:22 a.m., officers were dispatched to Hillside Avenue and Castle Street on a report of gunshots heard in the area. Officers canvassed the neighborhood for suspects, victims, witnesses and evidence and could not find anything.

On Friday, 03-27-15 at 12:49 a.m., Officer Kenneth Kim conducted a traffic stop in the area of Mission Street and Crocker Avenue. He asked the driver for his identification, and when the driver pulled his driver's license from his pants pocket, a small plastic baggie with a white powdery substance fell on top of his thigh. Officer Kim believed the baggie contained a controlled substance and asked the driver to hand the bag to him. The officer asked the driver what the substance inside the baggie was, and the driver said it was cocaine. A San Francisco Police officer came on scene to assist Officer Kim until a Daly City officer could arrive. Officer Kim asked the subject to step outside of his vehicle and asked if he had anything illegal on him. The subject denied having anything illegal. While conducting an inventory search of the vehicle, the officer found a box with 23 small plastic baggies with a white powdery substance inside, as well as money. The subject said he was delivering cocaine for a guy in San Francisco, and he was only doing this to supplement his income because he was a cashier. Officer Kim arrested the subject, a 25-year old Daly City resident, for possession of cocaine base for sale, transport and sale of a controlled substance, and transporting controlled substance between counties.

On Friday, 03-27-15 at 3:29 p.m., officers from the “Crime Suppression Unit” were on patrol on Mission Street and saw a subject whom our detectives believe committed a residential burglary on School Street earlier in the month. The subject quickly walked away from the person he was talking to when he saw the officers. The officers stopped him and asked if he had anything illegal on him. The subject, a 21-year old South San Francisco resident, said he had a small amount of marijuana and a knife in his backpack. The officers brought the subject back to the station and interviewed him regarding the burglary. The subject admitted to committing the crime. He was arrested for being in possession of a switch blade knife, residential burglary, gang enhancement, and conspiracy to commit a crime.

On Saturday, 03-28-15 at 7:41 p.m., Officer Ben Wagnon was on patrol in the area of Crocker Avenue and Rampart Way and saw a vehicle parked near the County Park entrance. Because it was dusk and the park was almost closing, the officer didn’t believe the persons in the vehicle were utilizing the park. Officer Wagnon contacted the driver and saw a pipe used to smoke methamphetamine on the floorboard between the driver’s legs. The officer asked the subject to step outside of the vehicle and asked if he could search the subject. The subject consented, and the officer found a clear small plastic baggie containing a white crystalline substance in the subject’s pants pocket. The subject spontaneously said, “That’s not mine”, as the officer removed it from his pants. Officer Shane Hart arrived to assist with the passenger, and he observed a pipe used to smoke methamphetamine on the floorboard of where he was seated. Officer Hart asked the subject if he could search him, and the subject consented. The officer also asked if there was anything illegal inside of his vehicle, and the subject said, “No”. When Officer Hart returned to the vehicle to pick up the pipe, he saw a small clear plastic baggie containing a white crystalline substance on the passenger seat where his subject was sitting. Officers arrested the subjects, 23 and 24 year old San Francisco residents, for possession of narcotics paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine.

On Saturday, 03-28-15, Officer Louis Jackson and Sergeant Jeff Tallerico took part in “Operation S.T.A.K.E." (Stop Tobacco Access to Kids Enforcement) which is a tobacco decoy enforcement detail in the cities of Millbrae, San Bruno, Daly City, Colma, and South San Francisco. The detail was initiated as a tool to stop the illegal sale of tobacco products to underage youths. The focus of the detail is to enforce the penal code which prohibits any person, firm, or corporation from selling, giving, or in any way furnishing to a minor, any tobacco product or paraphernalia when that person knows, or should have known, the minor's age given the circumstances. Officers sent an underage decoy in to numerous businesses to purchase cigarettes. Employees at four gas stations and one grocery store were issued citations to selling cigarettes to a minor.
