110 motorists in Chula Vista cited for cell phone use while driving
Chula Vista - Officers from the Chula Vista Police Department conducted a Distracted Driver Operation on Thursday April 2, 2015 between the hours of 4 PM and 10 PM within the City of Chula Vista.
Distracted driver operations concentrate on drivers talking on their cell phones or texting while operating a motor vehicle.
During this operation, traffic stops were conducted on 140 vehicles. 65 drivers were cited for utilizing their cell phone while driving, 45 drivers were cited for texting and 1 driver cited for being under the age of 18 and using a cell phone. 2 drivers were cited for either having a suspended driver’s license or no license at all. 2 vehicles were impounded during the operation for the driver having a suspended license or expired registration over six months. 18 other citations were written for various vehicle code violations including: unsafe speed, stop sign violation and violation of signs.
This was the first of five operations in April focused on Distracted Driving and it was considered a successful operation. The Chula Vista Police Department is continuing its efforts to keep our community safe by encouraging drivers to follow the rules of the road.
Funding for this operation was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
