Central - Sgt Fred Parrish arrives at a major traffic collision that had just occurred, extinguishing the car fire

SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at approximately 3:01 a.m., Sgt. Fred Parrish from the Central Station was responding to a call in Devore. As he was travelling northbound on Interstate 215, he approached a traffic collision that had just occurred. A passenger car collided with a dirt hauler causing major damage to the passenger car which started a fire in the engine compartment.
The driver, and sole occupant of the passenger car appeared to be severely injured and was drifting in and out of consciousness. The driver was pinned under the dash making an immediate rescue impossible. The engine compartment of the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. Sgt. Parrish used his patrol car's fire extinguisher to put the fire out. He also created an airway into the cab allowing the victim fresh air.
Fire personnel arrived and had to use the "jaws of life" to extract the victim. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
