Police Blotter March 20 - March 22

March 20th

Probation Violation, Possession of a controlled substance – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Ave.
At 0951 hours, officers were dispatched for an unwanted subject at Safeway. The manager called police after a known thief was located heading for the doors with a cart full of unpaid merchandise. The manager escorted the subject from the store and officers contacted him in the parking lot. The 35-year-old Richmond man was found to be on probation with a stay away clause from Safeway. The man was also in possession of heroin. The man was arrested and booked at the El Cerrito Police Department before being transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Assault with a deadly weapon – Lincoln Ave. / Ashbury Ave.
At approximately 2:43 pm, an El Cerrito Police School Resource Officer responded to a report of shots fired in front of the El Cerrito High School. He exited the school and found the victim on Lincoln Ave. Ave., at Ashbury Ave. The victim, an adult male, was not affiliated with the high school. He suffered from two gunshot wounds. The victim refused medical attention and left for the hospital with relatives. Officers responded to reports of suspects fleeing the area, made by witnesses in the aftermath of the shooting. Two juveniles were detained in the area after being identified as associates in the shooting. Officers created a separate perimeter around four residential blocks after residents reported a group of 4 suspicious males climbing over their fences, directly following the shooting.

The El Cerrito Police Department cleared the houses and yards with the help of police dogs and the San Pablo, Richmond, and Kensington Police Departments. The officers did not locate any additional suspects. The California Highway Patrol assisted units on the ground by providing aerial reconnaissance. During the search for suspects, several area schools were placed on lockdown.

The El Cerrito Police Department is working with the victim and other investigative sources to identify the suspects in this incident. Stolen Vehicle - 5800 Lassen Street: At 1608 hours, an officer responded to the report of stolen vehicle. An unidentified suspect stole an Acura sometime during the previous three days.

Warrant Arrest - 11450 San Pablo Avenue:
At 2034 hour, an officer responded to the report of an unwanted subject and arrested a 54 year old transient male on a misdemeanor warrant. He was booked and transported to the Contra Costa County Detention Facility in Martinez. .

Trespassing - 11450 San Pablo Avenue:
At 2046 hours, an officer responded to the report of a loiterer in the bathroom at Safeway who was refusing to leave. The subject, a 54 year old man with a history of theft, had been asked to leave numerous times throughout the day. He was arrested and released on a citation.

Resisting Arrest and Battery on a Police Dog - Creekside Park
At 0239 hours, a K-9 officer was conducting extra patrol in the park with his K-9 partner when he attempted to detain a subject. The subject walked away and refused to show the officer his hands. The subject walked away from the officer to the Pacific East Mall, refusing directives to stop. When the officer attempted to detain him, he swung away from the officer and was taken into custody. While being taken into custody, he kicked the police dog. Luckily the dog was not injured. The subject, an 18 year old Richmond male was booked into the Contra Costa County Detention Facility.

March 21st

Mental health evaluation – 500 block of Oak St.
At 0632 hours, officers were dispatched to the residence after the Veterans Services office called and stated that a 35-year-old El Cerrito man told them that he was hearing voices and was going to assassinate the president. The man was committed for a psychiatric evaluation and transported to the Contra Costa County Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

Domestic battery – 900 block of Liberty St.
At 1100 hours, officers responded to the area after a 47-year-old El Cerrito woman struck her boyfriend in the face with a telephone. The woman fled prior to police arrival. On 3/22/15, Officers contacted the woman at her residence and placed her under arrest. She was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Battery – 1500 block of Liberty St.
At 1400 hours, Officers were dispatched to the area after a victim stated his brother-in-law, a 52-year-old el Cerrito man punched him in the face. Officers found no evidence of a crime. The man was transported to the hospital for complaint of pain.

March 22nd

Driving under the Influence of an Alcoholic Beverage – Kearney St. / Moeser Ln.
At 0240 hours, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 21 year old Richmond male for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He was booked and released on a citation.

Residential burglary – 8600 block of Don Carol Dr.
Between 3/18/15 at 1230 hours and 3/21/15 at 1330 hours, an unknown suspect pried open a rear window to the victim’s house and stole electronics, jewelry, and the victim’s bicycle. The victim’s bicycle was located a few houses down the street with a flat tire.

Residential burglary – 500 block of Seaview Dr.
Between 3/20/15 at 1700 hours and 3/22/15 at 1600 hours,, an unknown suspect pried open the rear door to the victim’s residence and stole miscellaneous home goods.

Warrant Arrest Stockton Ave./San Pablo Ave:
At 1953 hours, an officer stopped a subject he knew had a misdemeanor warrant stemming from ECPD controlled substance possession charges. The man, a 38 year old Richmond resident was arrested and booked into the Contra Costa County Jail.

Shoplifting – Parole Warrant - 11450 San Pablo Avenue:
At 0038 hours, Officers responded to the report of two subjects stealing from Safeway. One suspect stole approximately $300 in seafood products. The second suspect stole personal hygiene. The second suspect fled to the BART station and was taken into custody. He provided numerous aliases but was determined via fingerprints to be a 29 year old parolee at large. He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.
