DATE/TIME: March 23, 2015

INCIDENT: Search and Rescue / Hoist Rescue

LOCATION: Goode Canyon area of Mount Baldy

VICTIM(S): Marsden, John 49yrs / Lindermuth, John 74yrs, San Diego County

On March 23, 2015, Marsden and Lindermuth hiked to the Mt Baldy Summit. On their return trip they got lost and were separated from each other. Their mutual friend knew they were overdue to return and contacted the Fontana Sheriff’s Station. Search and rescue personnel along with the Sheriff’s Aviation searched throughout the night for the lost hikers.

The hikers were located in the early morning hours of March 24, 2015, at the 7,200 foot level, in steep and rugged terrain of Goode Canyon near Mt. Baldy. Lindermuth was located by ground S&R personnel. He suffered minor injuries from falling and was unable to hike out on his own. Marsden was located by a Sheriff’s patrol helicopter on a steep ledge and ground crews were several hours away from reaching him on foot.

Sheriff’s Air Rescue helicopter 306 responded to the location and conducted two 90 foot hoists, extracting the hikers from the mountain side and transported them to Cow Canyon Saddle. Both hikers were evaluated by paramedics and released to Fontana Sheriff’s Station personnel.
