Information relating to the Lockdown of the Muskegon Co Airport and surrounding facilities.

At approximately 2:56 PM Units from Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police and Norton Shores Police, and Fruitport Police Departments responded to a complaint of an armed subject threatening to shoot people in the airport.
An employee of the airport received a phone call on the airport business line from an unidentified/unknown person claiming he was in the parking lot and armed with an AK-47 and was coming in to the airport to shoot people. The airport was locked down (as well as nearby Muskegon Christian Schools and several businesses around the airport) and responding officers searched airport, airport properties, parking lots, and vehicles leaving the airport but no armed subject was located. At this time it is believed this incident is a “hoax” possibly a “Swatting” effort on the part of the caller. Incident remains under investigation by Muskegon County Sheriff and media updates will be posted as pertinent information is developed. The lockdown(s) have been lifted and it is now business as usual for involved parties.
