Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a Shirley man last evening.

Ronald Viscusi, 63, was driving a 2001 Lincoln southbound on Islip Avenue when his vehicle struck the rear of a 2001 Honda driven by Emperatriz Ortiz, 26, who was backing out of a driveway at 6 Islip Avenue at approximately 8:30 p.m. Viscusi’s vehicle then crashed into a tree.

Viscusi was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Ortiz, of Amityville, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where she was treated and released.

The vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Third Squad at 631-854-8352 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
