Incident Summary
Summary of incident.
On March 23, 2014 at 4:36 PM Petaluma Police Dispatch received a phone call from a male who claimed he had placed 8 pipe bombs at 140 Keller St. When police dispatch asked why they picked that address the male caller said because it was the TWiT Brick House and they’re all going to die. The caller was asked why he was upset with TWiT and the caller stated he was not just upset with them but his whole life. The caller claimed he was going to take them all out and the bombs he had placed in the building would go off in 3 hours. The caller then made threats to go to the business and shoot all of the occupants of the building before the bombs went off. The caller hung up after this statement.
Petaluma Police responded to the business and contacted the management of TWiT which is a technology podcast company providing the latest perspectives and trends in digital technology. The management of the company was advised of the call and the need for police to perform a visual inspection of the inside of the building to attempt and locate any explosive devices. The company employees were not ordered to evacuate the building; however they were advised for the safety of their employees it might be best for them to leave. Most employees left until the business could be cleared by police. The surrounding businesses were also advised of the bomb threat at TWiT.
Petaluma Police Officers conducted a visual inspection of the entire business and did not locate anything suspicious. With the assistance of two U.S Coast Guard K-9’s who are both trained in explosives material detection a secondary search was completed and again nothing suspicious was located. The business was declared safe at 8 PM.
The phone call could not be traced back to a phone number and at this time the Petaluma Police Department does not have any leads as to who may have made the call or why Twit was targeted. The Petaluma Police Investigations unit is investigating this incident. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact Detective Nick McGowan at 707-778-4372.
