Highland - Felony Evading and Weapons Violations

DATE/TIME: March 21, 2015 / 3:00 p.m.

INCIDENT: VC 2800.2 – Felony Evading
Weapons Violations

SUSPECT: STEVEN CORRICELLI, AGE 26, of SAN BERNARDINO

LOCATION: Glen Helen Rd / Glen Helen Parkway; City of Devore

SUMMARY: On Saturday, March 21, 2015, at 3:00 p.m., Sheriff’s Deputies were conducting a hit & run investigation at the parking lot entrance to the “Beyond Wonderland” music festival being held at the San Manuel Amphitheater.

During the investigation, deputies located the suspect vehicle traveling south on Glen Helen Parkway and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver, Steven Corricelli, failed to yield to the deputies’ emergency lights and sirens, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. Corricelli fled at speeds in excess of 100 MPH on the I-15 & I-215 freeways as he was weaving in and out of traffic. At one point, Corricelli began traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of traffic on the I-215 freeway. After the 15 mile pursuit, Corricelli lost control of his vehicle and struck a curb in the 3000 block of Crescent Street in the City of San Bernardino. Corricelli fled from his vehicle on foot, and was found hiding in the yard of a nearby residence and was taken into custody without further incident. During a search of his vehicle, deputies’ located a loaded handgun; which had been stolen during a burglary in the City of San Bernardino. Corricelli was found not to be a patron of music festival, and was just driving through the area.

Deputies discovered Corricelli was on supervised probation for prior felony evading conviction as a result of California Assembly Bill 109. As part of Governor Jerry Brown’s Realignment Plan, or Assembly Bill 109, to comply with a U.S. Supreme Court decision requiring the state to lower its prison population by 30,000; offenders with non-violent, non-sexual and non-serious convictions will serve reduced sentences in county jails and be placed on local supervision through county Probation.

Corricelli was booked into the West Valley Detention Center on the above charges and is being held without bail.
